Swim Alumni Tay Thomas Completes Lake Tahoe Triple Crown

MALIBU, Calif. – Swim and dive alumni Tay Thomas became the 18th person to ever complete the Lake Tahoe Triple Crown on July 29th.

The Lake Tahoe Triple Crown is awarded to any swimmer who completes the three sanctioned courses in Lake Tahoe: the 21.3-mile Length, the 10.6-mile Vikingsholm and the 12.3-mile True Width.

Almost a year after completing the True Width of Lake Tahoe swim in July 2023, Thomas began the Length of Lake Tahoe swim at sunset on July 19th. She started on the south shore at Camp Richardson, California before continuing overnight and crossing the state line into Nevada. Thomas eventually finished the 21.3-mile marathon with a time of 10:34:48, becoming the fastest woman to ever complete the swim.

"This experience was so fun and beautiful," said Thomas. "From the almost full moon to watching the sun rise over the mountains, I couldn't have asked for a better night to swim. I had the best crew supporting me the entire way! A huge thank you to everyone for supporting me along the way, this is a swim I'll never forget."

Nine days later, Thomas set out to finish the Lake Tahoe Triple Crown. She started the Vikingsholm swim at 2:30 a.m. under the light of Cave Rock, Nevada before continuing through the sunrise and finishing in Emerald Bay on the California side of the lake. Thomas completed the Vikingsholm course on July 29th with a time of 4:29:16, becoming the fastest woman to complete this course as well.

"There was never a doubt Tay would finish this from the moment she started to the moment she finished," assistant coach Dan Marella said. "This is an event that very few people can say they attempted, let alone accomplish it. Tay is now the fastest woman to ever do it. This is a huge accomplishment, and our program is so proud of Tay."

Not only did Thomas become the fastest woman to complete the 21.3-mile and the 10.6-mile courses, but she is also the second fastest person ever to finish either course.
