MALIBU, Calif. — Senior distance runner Johnathan Flint of the Pepperdine men's cross country and track teams has earned the West Coast Conference Male Postgraduate Scholarship, an award only given to one athlete each academic year.
Â
Majoring in finance with a minor in applied mathematics, Flint strived in the classroom with a 4.0 while posting top-10 times for Pepperdine on the track.
Â
After graduating this spring, Flint is headed east to the University of Oxford to pursue a master's in financial economics at the Saïd Business School. Upon graduation, the hope is to work at a venture capital firm with emphasis in emerging markets.Â
Â
Throughout Flint's four years as a Wave he made his mark on campus, serving as the President of the Waves Leadership Council to lead important conversations in topics varying from mental health awareness to campus competition engagement. Doing so, Flint won this year's Pepperdine Male Scholar Athlete of the Year honor. The Flower Mound, Texas senior also had the opportunity to be a part of the Malibu Community Labor Exchange, working on projects such as beach cleanup in Santa Monica, the Tiny Tots Olympics and mental health trivia night.
Â
On the track, Flint has been busy etching his name in Pepperdine history. Holding top-10 times in five events, he most recently shattered his 10,000-meter time at Azusa Pacific's Franson Last Chance meet, replacing the second-best time in program history with a 30:10.14. As a three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree, including a spot on the WCC All-Academic Team this past fall, Flint is no stranger to both athletic and academic excellence.
