SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — After winning her tenth straight singles match last weekend, Pepperdine women's tennis senior Janice Tjen was named the West Coast Conference's Singles Player of the Week on Tuesday.
This is the first singles weekly award of the season for Tjen and the third of her career. She joins Lisa Zaar, Savannah Broadus and Nikki Redelijk as Waves who have earned the conference's weekly singles award this year. All told, this is Tjen's seventh WCC weekly award of the season; she and Broadus have won the weekly doubles award six times already.
Last week in Pepperdine's 7-0 sweep over San Francisco, Tjen blanked Hana Gamracy 6-0, 6-0 at the second position. With the result, Tjen has won her last 10-straight singles matches — including her last two in WCC play — to have a 10-1 record in dual match play. Tjen, who is ranked No. 52 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, has the longest active singles win streak of any WCC player.
Tjen and the #3 Waves will head north once again to face #5 Stanford and #10 California on April 5 and 6, respectively.
