Chillingworth and Stanger Earn WCC Weekly Awards

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — After big road wins in Washington to start 4-0 in West Coast Conference play, Pepperdine women's volleyball players Grace Chillingworth and Trinity Stanger won WCC weekly awards on Monday.

Chillingworth was named the WCC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and the seventh time of her career, while this is the first WCC Defensive Player of the Week award for Stanger. So far, four different Waves have won five WCC weekly awards this season (Birdie Hendrickson and Ella Piskorz were the other award winners).

Leading the Waves in both matches last week, Chillingworth tied her career high with a match-high 22 kills, plus added 12 digs against Gonzaga last Thursday. The senior outside hitter now has four double-doubles this season. Then on Sunday at Washington State, Chillingworth's late heroics helped the Waves come from behind in the fourth set to beat the Cougars on national television. Chillingworth recorded seven of her 14 kills in the fourth set alone, then capped off Pepperdine's comeback with an ace on match point. Her final stat line against the Cougars was 14 kills, 13 digs, two service aces and a block.

Stanger, meanwhile, set two career highs over the weekend in two four-set matches. The senior from Los Angeles tallied 17 digs, four assists and tied her career high with three service aces in the win over Gonzaga. She then set her career high with 27 digs at Washington State, plus she was instrumental in the back row on several long rallies throughout the match. Enjoying a breakout year for the Waves, Stanger's previous career high was 26 digs in another four-setter earlier this season against Washington.

Continuing its challenging start to WCC play, the Waves head to LMU on Saturday for a high-stakes PCH Cup match on Saturday. First serve is at 1 p.m.

Season tickets are now available for all fall sports, including women's volleyball. Additionally, Pepperdine is offering a Fall All-Sport Pass, which grants admission to all fall home sports including women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's water polo — a $525 retail value for just $150.
