MILLBRAE, Calif. – Through heavy winds with gusts up to 30 miles per hour, the #25 Pepperdine women's golf team impressed with the best round of the day to finish as co-Champions of the Silicon Valley Showcase alongside the top-ranked team in the nation, Stanford. Junior Lion Higo earned the second win of her career as well, moving up three spots to take the tournament crown outright.
Â
"Coach Rich and I are very proud of the team to win our fourth tournament of the regular season," said head coach Laurie Gibbs. Â "Being co-Champions with a great Stanford team is an incredible honor."
Â
The Waves had better second and third rounds than any other team at the par-71, 6,061-yard Green Hills Country Club, finishing with a three-round score of 869 (281-290-298). Pepperdine and Stanford were the two highest ranked teams in the tournament and both finished 39-strokes ahead of Santa Clara, who finished in third-place. Â
Â
"Awesome win for Lion, she has had a fabulous season," continued Gibbs. Â "Green Hills Country Club is a wonderful golf course and really challenged the players. The members, Krystal and Santa Clara hosted a first-class tournament. We look forward to the WCC Championship next week."
Â
Out of the six Waves golfing, five finished in the top-10, including the tournament-victor Higo. Higo finished with a 1-over 214, out-performing the current top-ranked player in the country, Rose Zhang from Stanford. Â
