#9 Waves Host #5 Michigan, Oklahoma State in Critical Weekend

MALIBU, California – After a pair of convincing road wins, the #9 Pepperdine women's tennis program returns home for two marquee matches on Saturday and Sunday.

SERIES HISTORY
Pepperdine is 6-2 against Michigan all-time and is 2-1 against the Wolverines in Malibu. Last season, the Waves took down Michigan 4-3 on the road.
 
Pepperdine is 3-5 against Oklahoma State, but the Waves won the last meeting in Malibu – a 4-0 decision in 2021. Last season, the Cowgirls took down Pepperdine 4-3 in Stillwater.
 
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine swept #15 Florida and #14 Central Florida on the road last weekend, defeating both schools by scores of 4-0. #29 Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) defeated a pair of top-70 opponents in straight sets to earn the West Coast Conference singles player of the week honor. Her and Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas), the top doubles team in the country, were named the WCC doubles team of the week following a pair of wins in Florida. Other Waves in the rankings include #16 Broadus in singles, #35 Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) and #27 Zaar/Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand).
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Michigan has been one of the best teams in the country through the early part of the dual season, winning five top-25 matchups already. Since falling to #1 North Carolina at the ITA Indoors, the Wolverines have defeated then-#11 Ohio State and Princeton. Julia Fliegner leads the squad with six wins in singles, all from the #3 position. Michigan has a host of players ranked by the ITA in both singles and doubles: #21 Jaedan Brown, #32 Fliegner, #46 Kari Miller, #55 Lily Jones, #113 Gala Mesochoritou and #2 Brown/Miller.
 
Since starting 2-3, Oklahoma State has rattled off four consecutive wins – all shutouts. All three losses for the Cowgirls have come against top-20 opponents, with two of those losses having been against Michigan. Two players are ranked by the ITA in singles: #107 Alana Wolfberg anad #118 Sofia Rojas.
