TUCSON, Arizona – The Pepperdine men's tennis program competed well in its first ranked matchup of the season, but fell 6-1 to #17 Arizona on Friday afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Arizona (4-1) got off to a fast start in doubles, racing out to leads on all three courts. Court one finished first giving the Wildcats an early lead. Pepperdine (1-3) clawed back from a 5-1 deficit on court two, but Arizona hung on to win that court and clinch the doubles point.
It took over two hours before the first singles match wrapped up, as Arizona doubled its lead to 2-0 with a three-set win on court five. With all five remaining courts in third sets, the Wildcats took the ranked matchup on court two to make it 3-0. They also won the ranked matchup on court one to seal the victory. Courts three, four and six would be played out to completion, with Arizona taking courts six and three.
Eric Hadigian (Sacramento, Calif.) ended the day on a positive note for the Waves, collecting a 6-7 (10), 6-3, 6-2 win over #74 Nick Lagaev on court four to close out the afternoon.
