MALIBU, California – For the third time this spring, the #9 Pepperdine women's tennis program has swept both weekly West Coast Conference awards as
Janice Tjen was named the singles player of the week while she and
Savannah Broadus were named the league's doubles team of the week.
#29 Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) easily won a pair of ranked matchups over the weekend to help Pepperdine sweep both #15 Florida and #14 Central Florida on the road. In two matches and four sets, she only dropped 12 games total in defeating Florida's #61 Carly Briggs 6-3, 6-3 and UCF's #31 Marie Mattell 6-2, 6-4. The junior improves to 5-2 this dual season and 16-4 overall this year. Tjen has now won eight ranked matchups so far in the 2022-23 season.
Fresh off earning recognition as the #1 doubles team in the country, Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Tjen recorded a pair of wins to help the #25 Waves over both #15 Florida and #14 UCF. The pair improved to 6-1 in the dual season together, and 21-2 together this school year.
This is the first career weekly award in singles for Tjen, and the fifth weekly doubles award for the pair dating back to last year. The Waves swept the WCC weekly awards on January 15 and February 14. This is the third weekly doubles award for Broadus and Tjen this spring.
