ORLANDO, Florida – The #25 Pepperdine women's tennis program swept its second top-15 road match in three days, closing out an important weekend with a 4-0 win over #14 Central Florida on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
Pepperdine (5-2) led throughout the majority of doubles on all three courts, and it was the nation's top-ranked duo of
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) that got the first victory with a 6-2 decision on court one. With the Waves holding a pair of match points over UCF (5-4) on both courts two and three, #27
Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) and
Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) provided the clinch of the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court two.
The Waves dominated singles, winning all six first sets with four of six courts having a margin of three games or more. #16 Broadus cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win on court three over Noel Saidenova to double the Pepperdine lead. #29 Tjen earned her second ranked win of the weekend, defeating #31 Marie Mattel 6-2, 6-4 to give Pepperdine a commanding 3-0 lead.
To close out the match, #35 Zaar took down Jantje Tilbuerger 6-2, 6-1 putting an exclamation point on the weekend for the Waves.
