MALIBU, California – Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen of the #25 Pepperdine women's tennis program have earned status as the top doubles team in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in the latest individual rankings.
Â
This is the third #1 ITA doubles ranking in Pepperdine program history. Christine Maddox and Mayar Sherif were previously the top-ranked doubles duo in 2017, while Ashley Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova were also ranked #1 in the spring of 2019.
Â
Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) are 19-2 as a pair throughout the 2022-23 season, winning the ITA National Fall Championships en route to a 5-1 start in the dual season. The duo advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships last May, earning ITA All-American status in doubles in the process.
Â
The All-West Coast Conference first team performers collected 24 doubles wins in the 2021-22 season, good for sixth in the Pepperdine women's tennis record books for single season wins. The 17 dual season wins earned them third place on the single-season wins list at the second spot in the lineup. Four times in their careers have they been named the WCC doubles team of the week.
