#25 Pepperdine Heads to Florida for Two Matches

MALIBU, California – Following a nearly two-week hiatus, the #25 Pepperdine women's tennis program heads to the Eastern Time Zone for a pair of ranked, road matches in the Sunshine State.

SERIES HISTORY
Pepperdine has not defeated Florida, though the teams have only met twice since 1998. The only meeting between the teams in Gainesville came in 1989.
 
This will be the first all-time meeting between Pepperdine and UCF.
 
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine last competed a week and a half ago at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, going 1-2 with a top-10 win over #7 Virginia. #16 Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) won all three of her singles matches against top-15 teams en route to being named the West Coast Conference singles player of the week. She leads the Waves with a 4-0 dual singles record, while Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) is 3-1. Following ITA Indoors, Broadus and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia), the top-ranked doubles team in the country, were named the WCC doubles team of the week. Tjen checks in at #29 in the ITA singles rankings. Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) is ranked #35 in singles, while she and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) are ranked #27 in doubles.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Florida has won four of five matches to begin the season, defeating South Florida, Arizona, Baylor and Florida State. Their only defeat was to then-#4 Texas A&M over ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Three Gators are 4-0 in singles play this spring: #83 Sara Dahlstrom, Emily de Oliveira and Rachel Gailis. Two other players are ranked by the ITA in singles: #61 Carly Briggs and #106 Anastasia Sysoeva.
 
Central Florida is 4-3 to begin the spring, though all three losses are to top-25 teams on the road. Wins for UCF have come against Stetson, Arizona State, LSU and Florida International. Last weekend, the Knights went to Vanderbilt and Tennessee losing 4-1 and 4-3, respectively. Marie Mattel is ranked #31 by the ITA in singles, while Nandini Sharms is 125th.
