SEATTLE, Washington – The #8 Pepperdine women's tennis program was unable to climb out of multiple deficits on Sunday afternoon and fell 4-2 to #13 Auburn in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Seattle Tennis Club.
In doubles, Pepperdine (3-2) was the first to a win by virtue of an impressive 6-0 win on the top court by #4
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) to take down #8 Ansari and Arseneault. Auburn (7-2) responded, however, taking courts three and two after nearly an hour to take the doubles point from the Waves.
Neither team was able to gain separation in the first portion of singles, as each team took three first sets. #16 Broadus won her third consecutive match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-0 rout of #95 Kaitlyn Carnicella on court three to even the match up at one apiece. Auburn responded with straight-set wins of their own on courts one and four to open up a 3-1 lead before
Anna Campana (Hillsborough, Calif.) won a match for the second consecutive day, taking down Adeline Flach 6-3, 7-6 (4) to cut the deficit in half at 3-2.
Courts two and five both went to three sets – Auburn needed one win while the Waves needed two. The Tigers finished the match by taking the third set on court two.
