Six Waves Earn WCC All-Academic Honors

MALIBU, Calif. — Six members of the Pepperdine women's volleyball team garnered West Coast Conference All-Academic acclaim on Thursday, with Isabel Zelaya and Riley Patterson highlighting with first team recognition.

Along with the first team honors, Emma Ammerman, Grace Chillingworth, Kenadie Patterson and Vanessa Polk garnered honorable mention status.

Zelaya (Tomball, Texas) is a graduate student working towards a master's in business management, with a 3.752 grade point average. This is the third time throughout her career she earned WCC All-Academic first team honors, while she also amassed a CSC Academic All-District first team nod this season, as well as last season. She is a three-time WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree with two gold honors (2020, 2022) and one silver nod (2021). This season, Zelaya garnered WCC Setter of the Year, All-Pacific South Region first team and All-WCC first team honors. She finished the year with 10.06 assists/set and 956 total assists to lead the Waves, while amassing 2.04 digs/set and 194 total digs as well. She ended her career ranked second in the Pepperdine record books with 4,950 total career assists.

Patterson (Sonora, Calif.) obtained a master's of science in business and amassed a 3.52 grade point average. She is currently pursuing a degree in organizational leadership and learning as well. Since joining the Waves, she had previously earned WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'silver' honors. She was the 2023 WCC Libero of the Year and earned a spot on the All-WCC first team. She had tabbed two other All-WCC second team nods throughout her career as well. This season, she posted 356 total digs and averaged 3.71 digs/set, while amassing 25 aces and 100 assists to average 0.26 aces and 1.04 assists per set for the squad.

Senior Ammerman (Parker, Colo.) has amassed a 3.588 while studying sport administration, junior Chillingworth (Tustin, Calif.) has marked a 3.244 while studying integrated marketing communication, sophomore Polk (St. Louis, Mo.) has obtained a 3.755 GPA while studying sociology and sophomore Kenadie Patterson (Oakdale, Calif.) has accrued a 3.304 while pursuing a degree in sport administration. Polk had also earned a spot on CSC's All-Academic squad this season.

To be considered, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, have at least sophomore academic and athletic status, and be a significant contributor to the team. For this award, grade point averages were pulled from the last completed full year – Fall 2021 to Spring 2022.

The Waves concluded the 2023 campaign with a 19-9 overall record, having won the WCC Championship title with a 15-1 record against league opponents. The team's run in the postseason ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
