Women's Golf Opens Up Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Pepperdine women's golf team got things started at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate on Sunday, finishing out the first round played at the par-71 Cherokee Country Club tied for fourth with a score of 287.Â

There are three Waves in the top-15, led by Jeneath Wong who tabbed a 2-under 69 to open the tournament after starting things off through 16 holes without an error. Lion Higo and Kaleiya Romero are both tied for 14th, one stroke behind Wong.

The Waves are four and three strokes behind the teams in second and third respectively. UCF marked a strong 13-under 271 to take the lead after day one.

- Sophomore Jeneath Wong (Melbourne, Australia) is tied for seventh after a first-round score of 2-under 69. She remained flawless through her first 16 holes today and marked three birdies with only one bogey. She is only three strokes out of the lead.
- Seniors Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) and Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) are both tied for 14th with a score of 70. Higo amassed three birdies throughout the round, while Romero also picked up three birdies, incuding one in her first eight bogeyless holes.
- Junior Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) and freshman Helen Chu (Guangzhou, China) are tied for 62nd with scores of 78. Gomez finished with a pair of birdies, while Chu added three herself.
