#20 Waves Defeat Georgia Tech for First Win

PALO ALTO, California – The #20 Pepperdine men's tennis program got off to a fast start and held off a late Georgia Tech charge on Monday afternoon, defeating the Yellow Jackets 4-1 at the Taube Family Tennis Center for its first win of the season in the Waves' final match of the ITA Kick-Off event.

Pepperdine (1-2) opened doubles with a 6-2 win on court two thanks to Maxi Homberg (Freising, Germany) and Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland). With Georgia Tech (5-2) holding a match point on court one, Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) and Eric Hadigian (Sacramento, Calif.) secured the doubles point for the Waves with a 6-3 win on court three.

The Waves kept the pressure on in singles, winning five first sets, but the Yellow Jackets fought back to stay in it. Homberg earned a 6-1, 7-5 win on court four over Rohan Sachdev, but GT answered with a straight-set win of their own on court one to cut the Waves' lead to 2-1. Fellin won a 6-2, 6-4 decision on court six over Elias Shokry to give Pepperdine a commanding 3-1 lead, and Vasa finished GT off by defeating Keshav Chopra 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 on court three to give the Waves a 4-1 win.
