MALIBU, California – The #9 Pepperdine women's tennis program opened its season at home on Saturday, shutting out Clemson 4-0 in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
Pepperdine (1-0) got rolling early in doubles, as the fourth-ranked pair of
Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and
Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) won 6-1 over Louka and Mayorova. Clemson (4-1) got on the board with a 6-1 win on court two, but
Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla.) and
Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden) took down Hatton and Medvedev 6-2 almost simultaneously, securing the doubles point for the Waves.
The Waves took five of six first sets in singles and opened up a 3-0 lead before all six courts were into the second frame thanks to 6-1, 6-2 wins by both #21 Broadus and #12 Tjen on courts three and one, respectively. Zaar earned the clincher for the Waves, taking down Cristina Mayorova 6-2, 6-3 on court two.
