Waves Claim First in Weekend Competition

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive program completed a full weekend of racing with momentum for the final two meets of the season, leading both San Diego and LMU in points on Saturday afternoon at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.

After 20 events and two days of competition, Pepperdine led the pack with 408 points. San Diego came in second with 368.50 points and LMU rounded out the group with 106.5 points.

MEET RECAP
Saturday's slate included two sessions of swimming with the 1-meter diving event sandwiched in between. AJ Adams (Castle Rock, Colo./Valor Christian HS) won her second IM event of the weekend, this time pacing the 400 IM field with a 4:39.68 time. Jenna Sanchez (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) won the 100 breast in 1:04.62 for the next Waves' victory. The Waves collected another event win in the 400 medley relay as Kylie Taylor (Eugene, Ore./Churchill HS), Sanchez, Charli Sunahara (Chino, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala HS) and Alexandra Browne (Arlington, Va./Washington-Liberty HS) crossed the finish line first in 3:54.60.  Sunahara also won the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.83.

In the 1-meter diving competition, Delainey Pisaruk (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle HS) came in second with a score of 215.48, while fellow freshman Amanda Wong (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) took third after a 206.25 performance.

Lexi Haymart (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Ponderosa HS) continued her long-distance dominance this season with a first-place finish in the mile, winning it in 17:28.45. This improved her standing on the top-10 list for that event from fourth to third. The very next event, Taylor took home an individual win in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.88. To finish out the meet, the 400 free relay squad of Browne, Paige Tattersall (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS), Anna Ryan (Alamo, Calif./Monte Vista HS) and Sanchez came in first with a 3:33.02 time.

A host of Waves finished in second place in their respective events to help Pepperdine keep control of the meet. The 200 free relay team of Browne, Jasmine Williams (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS), Ryan and Sanchez opened the meet with a 1:38.04 time to earn second. Lexie Deitemeyer (Golden, Colo./Golden HS) crossed the finish line second in the 100 fly with a 1:00.07 showing. She also took second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.89. Tattersall was fourteen-hundredths of a second away from a win in the 200 free, but a terrific showing of 1:56.27 netted her second place. Additionally, Sunahara continued her strong weekend with a second place finish in the 100 breast after a 1:06.14 time. In the 200 back, Adams took second with a time of 2:08.95. Sanchez earned a second-place finish as well, going 52.74 in the 100 free.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Ellie Monobe said: "I'm very pleased and impressed with the Waves today. We swam with a lot of grit and it was a huge team effort. Today's success was due to the depth of our program. It's been encouraging to see things fall into place as we head into the final weeks of the season."

Diving coach Monique Demaisip said: "It was a great two days of diving for the Waves. We started off strong on the 3-meter with three Waves in the top three and followed up with a strong fight on the 1-meter, so I am pleased with the results and improvements I saw this weekend. This was a great practice run for conference, and I'm excited for us to take this momentum into the last few weeks leading into conference. We're just going to keep focusing on the details and finishing the season strong!"

NEXT UP
