Waves Picked As WCC Title Favorite Once Again

MALIBU, California – The #10 Pepperdine women's tennis team was picked to win the West Coast Conference again, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
 
Pepperdine has won 10 consecutive WCC regular-season championships and the last eight WCC Tournament titles.
 
Additionally, Janice Tjen, Savannah Broadus and Lisa Zaar were named to the WCC Women's Tennis Preseason Team. Pepperdine is the only school in the league with at least two players receiving preseason recognition.
 
Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia), ranked 12th by the ITA in singles, was an All-WCC first team performer in both singles and doubles last season. The junior was an ITA All-American in doubles with Broadus, advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship. Tjen went 25-5 in singles last season and won her last 15 dual matches. This fall, she had a singles record of 9-1.
 
Broadus (Carrollton, Texas), ranked 21st in singles, was the 2022  ITA Southwest Region Rookie of the Year following a dominant freshman campaign. The WCC Freshman of the Year had 35 overall singles wins, including a dual season record of 25-5. This fall, she went 10-2 in singles and advanced to the ITA National Fall Championships following a runner-up performance at the ITA Southwest Regional.
 
Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden), a 2022 ITA All-American in singles, earned All-WCC first team honors in both singles and doubles last season. Her 38 overall singles wins placed her fourth on the overall single-season wins list. The senior currently holds the second-highest overall career winning percentage in Pepperdine history at .819 (77-17).
