Waves Extend Lead at Golfweek Red Sky Classic

WOLCOTT, Colorado – The Pepperdine women's golf team has extended its lead to 11 shots after Tuesday's second round at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, while Lauren Gomez and Lion Higo are 1-2 in the individual standings.

The Waves have a two-day total of a 12-under 564 (285-279) at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club. They posted a score of 9-under today, the only team to finish below par, and that was nine shots better than second-place Colorado. After the Buffaloes, Kennesaw State and Fresno State will go into the final round 17 shots back of Pepperdine.

Today's 9-under ties the fifth-best single-round score in program history, while the 12-under after 36 holes is the third-best mark in Pepperdine history.

Pepperdine has won this tournament (when it was known as the Golfweek Conference Challenge) four times, last in 2014.

PLAYER SCORES
- Sophomore Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.) began the day with the individual lead and kept it at the end after a birdie on 18. She's got a 6-under 138 (67-71). Her 1-under today included three birdies. Gomez, the 2022 West Coast Conference champion, is going for her second career individual title.
- Junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) tied for the best round of the day with a 5-under 67. She's now got a 5-under 139 (72-67). After one early bogey, she birdied 4, 11, 14 and 17 and finished her day off with an eagle on the par-5 18th. Higo will be attempting to win her first college tournament.
- Freshman Jenny Zhu (Nanjing, China) is tied for 13th at 145 (75-70). She posted a flawless 2-under today. She had birdies on 2 and 18, and 15 pars in a row in between the two.
- Senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for 21st at 147 (71-76). She had nine straight pars on the back nine today.
- Junior Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is tied for 29th at 148 (77-71). Her 1-under featured an eagle on the par-5 5th hole and three birdies, including one on 18 to get her below par.
