SAN FRANCISCO, California – After a near-perfect weekend, the Pepperdine women's tennis team took home the singles and doubles titles for the second season in a row at the Battle in the Bay hosted by the University of San Francisco at the California Tennis Club.
Â
#44 Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) claimed the singles title after rolling through five matches without dropping a set. The junior punctuated her weekend with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the final over #79 Dasha Vidmanova of Georgia.
Â
Tjen and doubles partner Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas), the #6 doubles pair in the country, had little trouble in winning the doubles title, dropping only 15 games in four matches. They defeated Georgia's Guillermina Grant and Dasha Vidmanova 8-2 in the final.
Â
Broadus also took home the doubles title last season with former teammate Anastasia Iamachkine. Broadus was also the reigning singles champion at this event.
Â
Pepperdine had half of the semifinalists in the singles field, as #49 Broadus won her first three matches before bowing out in Saturday's semifinal. In her Pepperdine debut, #36 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals before her weekend came to a close.
