MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's tennis program, following its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, has added two members to the 2022-23 squad.
 
Maxi Homberg and Max Wuelfing will begin their first seasons in Malibu this fall as freshmen.
 
Homberg (Freising, Germany) is a member of the German national team. He is ranked in the top two for his age group in Germany while adding a top 50 ranking among all German men. He has an ITF-high ranking of 67 with an ATP ranking of 1482.
 
Head coach Adam Schaechterle said: "When he visited, Maxi recognized our players' passion for training and trusted our coaching staff's approach to development. Both sides felt like it was the perfect fit between player and program. Maxi will make an immediate impact on our lineup in singles and doubles. He's an elite recruit with consistent high-level results. We can't wait to work with Maxi."
 
Wuelfing (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) holds an ITF ranking of 189 and an ATP doubles ranking of 1556.
 
Head coach Adam Schaechterle said: "Over the last several years, we've had several under-the-radar recruits make significant contributions to our program. Robert Shelton, Pietro Fellin and Tim Zeitvogel have been some of the most improved players in college tennis. We see a similar upside in 'Wolf' – there is something special in this young man. He has a chance to surprise a lot of folks as he works and develops."
 
Pepperdine finished the 2021-22 campaign at 18-8, including a win in the NCAA Tournament first round against Washington. The Waves' fall schedule will be announced at a later date.
