Men's Tennis Rolls Washington, Advances in NCAA Tournament

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Pepperdine men's tennis kept its season going for at least one more day, as the Waves advanced in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Washington 4-0 on Friday morning at the Carolina Tennis Center.

The Waves (18-7) have now won at least one match in each of the last 22 NCAA Tournaments they've competed in. This also was the fifth Pac-12 win of the season for Pepperdine.

Pepperdine got things rolling in doubles, as the court one pair of #72 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) and Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) took down the #23 duo of Jack Davis and Ewen Lumsden 6-4. The Waves earned the all-important doubles point after Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Corrado Summaria (Cosenza, Italy) were 6-2 winners on court two. Court three, where Pepperdine had just taken a 5-4 lead, was abandoned.

Pepperdine took five of six first sets from Washington (18-12) with only the ranked matchup on court one going the Huskies' way early. #67 Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) and Enrique Luque Rico (Cordoba, Spain) breezed to singles wins to open up a 3-0 lead for the Waves, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Jack Davis on court two and 6-1, 6-1 over Han-Chih Lin on court four, respectively.

Holding a commanding lead, Pepperdine finished UW off with a third straight-set win, as Summaria took care of business on court five, defeating Cesar Bouchelaghem 6-4, 6-2 to send Pepperdine to the next round.
