Zaar Earns All-American Status, Broadus and Tjen Move On in Doubles

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – #27 Lisa Zaar of the Pepperdine women's tennis program became the 23rd Wave to reach All-American status in singles after advancing to the round of 16 on Tuesday afternoon at the NCAA Singles Championship at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.

Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden), a junior, took down #6 Sarah Hamner from South Carolina 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to be named an All-American. Zaar avenged a three-set loss to Hamner at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa in October.

She will face #63 Haley Giavara from California in Wednesday's round of 16 match at 7:00 a.m. PT.

The 42nd-ranked doubles pair of Savannah Broadus (Carrollton, Texas) and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) also earned a top-20 win, defeating Florida State's 16th-ranked Anna Arkadianou and Petra Hule 6-2, 6-3 to move on to Wednesday's round of 16.

Broadus and Tjen need just one more win to reach All-American status in doubles. They face #3 Emma Navarro and Hibah Shaikh from Virginia tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. PT.
