Waves Cruise Past San Francisco

MALIBU, Calif. – The #24 Pepperdine men's tennis program got back on track Friday afternoon, taking down San Francisco 4-1 in West Coast Conference action at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

Pepperdine (15-6, 7-1 WCC) got off to a quick start in doubles, as the court two pair of Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Corrado Summaria (Cosenza, Italy) didn't drop a game and won handily, 6-0. With San Francisco (11-11, 3-5 WCC) on the verge of a win on court three, Pepperdine's 74th-ranked duo of Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) and Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) stayed poised after their 4-1 lead evaporated to earn a 6-4 win on court one, clinching the doubles point for the Waves.

The Waves took five first sets in singles, with Summaria earning the first win on court five rather easily over Nikola Kuraica, 6-0, 6-2, to give Pepperdine a 2-0 lead. #90 Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) was the next winner for the Waves, defeating David Woodland on court six 6-4, 6-2.

With one match remaining, both #99 Rogers on court two and Vasa on court four were near the finish line, and it was Vasa who claimed Pepperdine's third straight-set win of the afternoon after a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Mitch Johnson to secure the victory for the Waves.
