MALIBU, California – The #22 Pepperdine men's tennis program received its first two weekly West Coast Conference awards of the season, as
Daniel De Jonge was recognized on Tuesday as the WCC Singles Player of the Week by the league office, while the pair of
Enrique Luque Rico and
Tim Zeitvogel was named the WCC Doubles Team of the Week.
Playing from the top spot, #15 De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) was dominant in two matches this week in helping the Waves defeat Portland and #55 Gonzaga. In Saturday's win against the Pilots, De Jonge was a 6-4, 6-4 victor over Sema Pankin. In Sunday's victory over the Zags, the senior was once again a straight-set winner, this time defeating Sasha Trkulja 7-6 (6), 6-1. De Jonge is now 11-4 this dual season playing solely from the first spot. This is his third career WCC Singles Player of the Week honor.
Playing from the number three position, Rico (Cordoba, Spain) and Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) collected two convincing wins this week in helping Pepperdine to a pair of victories. In Saturday's win against Portland, Rico and Zeitvogel got the first doubles victory with a 6-2 decision. In Sunday's defeat of Gonzaga, the duo helped clinch the doubles point with a 6-1 win. Rico and Zeitvogel are 4-1 in the dual season. This is the first weekly doubles recognition for the pair together. Zeitvogel was once named to the WCC Doubles Team of the Week with
Corrado Summaria in 2021.
