STOCKTON, California – The #20 Pepperdine men's tennis program opened its Northern California road trip on a high note on Friday afternoon, as the Waves easily took care of Pacific 4-1 at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center in West Coast Conference action.
After Pepperdine (10-5, 2-0 WCC) defaulted court three in doubles, the Waves needed wins on both courts one and two to secure the doubles point. Pepperdine was up to the challenge, as the court one pair of
Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) and
Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) were 6-3 winners to open up the match. Court two comprising of
Enrique Luque Rico (Cordoba, Spain) and
Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) earned a 6-4 victory to close out the doubles portion of the afternoon.
Pacific (3-13, 0-3 WCC) earned a win by default on court six, so singles began with the score knotted up at one apiece. The Waves took all six first sets to build a cushion, needing a trio of second-set wins to gain the match victory. #35 Zeitvogel cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win on the top court to begin singles, regaining the lead for Pepperdine. Rico soon followed suit, taking care of business on court five by a score of 6-1, 6-3. With one more victory needed for a second consecutive WCC win,
Corrado Summaria (Cosenza, Italy) closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win on court four.
