#21 Waves Take Down #10 Harvard, Win Fifth Straight

MALIBU, California – The #21 Pepperdine men's tennis program kept its impressive play going, taking down #10 Harvard, 4-3, thanks to a clinch by #48 Andrew Rogers on Thursday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center for its fifth win in a row.

The Waves (8-4) remained perfect in Malibu on the season and earned a measure of revenge against the Crimson (9-3) after Harvard defeated Pepperdine at the ITA Kick-Off event in January. This was also the second top-10 win of the season for Pepperdine after defeating #5 USC in February.

Harvard took the doubles point, as court two went to the Crimson first at 6-2. Soon after, Harvard claimed a 6-4 victory on court three.

In singles, the Crimson kept the momentum with a straight-set win on court six to take a 2-0 lead. The Waves cut the lead in half after #121 Corrado Summaria (Cosenza, Italy) took down Steven Sun on court five, 6-2, 6-4.

#13 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) responded with a massive 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 over #23 Henry Von Der Schulenburg to knot the match up at 2. With three courts remaining, Harvard retook the lead with a three-set win on court three. However, Pepperdine would not be denied by Harvard once again, as #65 Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) won 7-5, 7-6 (3) over #35 Harris Walker on court two before Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) clinched the win for the Waves with a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6) win on court four.

QUOTABLE

Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said: "Huge respect for Harvard. We've had two battles with them and they've both been great college matches that have come down to the last point. I'm proud of our leaders for stepping up in the biggest moments. All three captains were warriors today. We need a great crowd for a tough Texas team tomorrow!"
