#18 Waves Fall in Heartbreaker at Tulsa

TULSA, OKLAHOMA – The #18 Pepperdine men's tennis program finished up its trip to Oklahoma with a match that went down to the wire, but was unable to finish the weekend sweep as Tulsa defeated the Waves 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center.

Pepperdine (2-3) fell behind in doubles to start the day, losing the initial point after courts three and two fell 6-4 and 6-2 respectively. Court one was at 4-4 when it was abandoned.

The Waves won three first sets in singles and took the first match as Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) was a straight-set winner at the four spot, 6-2, 6-2. Soon after, #8 Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) handed Kody Pearson his first dual loss of the season, winning 6-3, 6-4 on court one to give Pepperdine a 2-1 lead. #72 Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) opened up a 3-1 lead for the Waves after a straight-set win on court three, 6-3, 6-4.

After Tulsa (4-2) took court two, it all came down to courts five and six with the Waves holding a 3-2 advantage. The Hurricane won in straight sets on court five to knot the match up at three apiece. After dropping the first set, #99 Eric Hadigian (Sacramento, Calif.) won 6-3 in the second to force a deciding third, with the winner of the third set on court six winning the match. Hadigian took the first three games of set three, but Tulsa's Callum Gale responded by winning the next three. The sides then traded the next two games before Tulsa took the last two games for the match win.
