MALIBU, CALIFORNIA – The #21 Pepperdine men's tennis program's strong showing in singles propelled the Waves to a 4-3 win over Arizona State at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
After dropping doubles, the Waves won four of six singles matches to claim the victory.
Pepperdine (3-3) opened up doubles with a win on court three, as
Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) and
Tim Zeitvogel (Baden-Baden, Germany) teamed up to defeat Moritz Hoffmann and George Stoupe 6-2. Court one went to Arizona State (1-6), making court two the decider in who won the doubles point. The Sun Devils took it 6-3, giving them the early lead heading into singles.
Corrado Summaria (Cosenza, Italy) got things going for the Waves in singles, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Moritz Hoffmann to knot the match up at one. ASU took court three in straight sets to regain the lead, but #32
Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) took care of business on court four, 6-4, 7-5 to even up the score. With three courts remaining – all on third sets –
Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) was the third singles winner of the day for the Waves, splitting the first two sets 6-2 and 3-6 before rolling in the third, 6-1, to give the Waves a 3-2 lead. In similar fashion, Zeitvogel, ranked 91
