MALIBU, California – Following his second consecutive ITA Southwest Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honor, Tassilo Schmid has been promoted to associate head coach of the Pepperdine men's tennis program as announced by head coach Adam Schaechterle on Tuesday.
 
During his first four seasons, the Waves went 56-28 in dual matches, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and 2022 and have been ranked in the end of season top 25 polls twice. In 2021, Pepperdine won the WCC Championship for the first time since 2013. Schmid has helped Daniel De Jonge to both the 2020 ITA Southwest Regional Rookie of the Year honor and the 2022 ITA Southwest Regional Most Improved Senior award.
 
Schmid said: "It feels very special to have the trust from Adam and the constant support of the administration at Pepperdine. Since day one, I felt this would be a great partnership and a great place to help young players develop. I'm very thankful for our players who have done an outstanding job developing on and off the court. It's fun to be in an environment that wants to pursue excellence. Schaechterle said: "Tassy has been a partner in every aspect of building the program. He has earned a national reputation as an elite recruiter, but he has made equally significant contributions to our player development and team culture.
 
"What I appreciate most about Tassy is how he genuinely cares more about our student athletes than himself. He puts a player's hopes and dreams above his own. He lives out the principles he coaches."
 
Pepperdine begins its dual season in January. The full spring schedule has not yet been released.
