PALO ALTO, California – The #22 Pepperdine men's tennis program battled on the road in its season opener at #16 Stanford, but ultimately fell 5-2 on Friday afternoon.
Eero Vasa (Turku, Finland) and
Andrew Rogers (Brentwood, Tenn.) both claimed singles wins in their first dual appearances as Waves to highlight the afternoon for Pepperdine.
Pietro Fellin (Milan, Italy) and Rogers also earned a doubles win over the Stanford pair of Max Basing and Timothy Sah, ranked 31
st nationally.
After falling behind and losing the doubles point on a tiebreaker, Pepperdine's first singles win came after Vasa defeated Sah in straight sets to bring Pepperdine within one at 2-1. Rogers was the next Wave winner, taking down Axel Geller in another straight-set victory. Down 3-2,
Daniel De Jonge (Vlissingen, Netherlands) battled back to force a tiebreaker in the second set but ultimately fell on the tiebreaker, 7-4.
