MALIBU, California – The defending NCAA runner-up Pepperdine women's tennis team begins its fall slate with a trip up the coast to San Francisco for the Battle in the Bay this weekend.
Four Waves -- freshman
Savannah Broadus, sophomore
Nikki Redelijk, and juniors
Lisa Zaar and
Anastasia Iamachkine -- will compete over the course of four days. The event format is a singles and doubles main draw, with a back draw included. There are 32 individuals in the singles main draw, with 16 pairs in the doubles main draw. Pepperdine will start the tournament Thursday with singles and doubles, and the event will run through Sunday.
Head coach
Per Nilsson welcomes back five returners from the squad that advanced all the way to the national championship match last May. Five Waves enter the fall season ranked nationally in singles, with Zaar coming in at #53. Iamachkine also starts the season ranked #56 as a doubles pair with
Janice Tjen.
