KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – The Pepperdine men's tennis team started its fall slate today at the Knoxville Showdown. The Waves competed in singles and doubles against the host school, Tennessee, for the majority of matches throughout the course of the day.
The first victory of the weekend for the Waves came when
Pietro Fellin and
Linus Carlsson Halldin defeated Monday/Gannon from Tennessee by a score of 7-5.
Andrew Rogers and
Tim Zeitvogel dropped a 6-2 decision to the combo of Hudd and Mitsui, while
Daniel De Jonge and
Eric Hadigian lost a nailbiter to Diaz and Wallner, 7-6 (7-3) to finish out the doubles portion of the day.
In singles play,
Corrado Summaria was the first winner for the Waves after defeating Ben Gollin from Columbia 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).
Enrique Luque Rico followed that up with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Columbia's Henry Ruger. Rogers was the third winner of the day after dispatching Shunsuke Mitsui 6-1, 6-4. Hadigian, in his Pepperdine debut, quickly handled Tennessee's Conor Gannon 7-5, 6-4. De Jonge battled to a three-set win over #6 ranked Johannus Monday, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0. The final victor of the day for Pepperdine was Carlsson Halldin, also in his Wave debut. He defeated Angel Diaz 7-6, 6-1.
