MALIBU, Calif. – College women's volleyball returns to the fall this year as the Pepperdine women's volleyball team announced the 2021 schedule on Monday afternoon. The Waves enter the season ranked #22 in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Â
"We are excited to build upon last spring's foundation of playing good volleyball against quality opponents," said Head Coach Scott Wong. Â "This year's schedule kicks off with a trio of tough volleyball programs as we head south to start the season in Georgia. The rest of the non-conference season features opponents that will challenge us to be our best and that is the goal every year as we aim to have a deep dive in the NCAA tournament. Once again, the WCC is shaping up to be a series of great matches and we can't wait to compete against the nation's best in the WCC!"
Â
The Waves are back to a full schedule including both non-conference and conference action this season and will play 26 matches. Of those matches, 12 will be played at home in Firestone Fieldhouse. All home matches will be available to watch online for free as Wavecasts will air on the WCC Network throughout the year.  Â
Â
Pepperdine will kick off the season with an exhibition match on Saturday, August 21 at Long Beach State. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and will have live stats available and found on www.PepperdineWaves.com.Â
Â
Four of the Waves' future opponents including Washington, BYU, San Diego and Morehead State, played in the NCAA Tournament last season, all of which won their way into the second round. Washington finished in the NCAA quarterfinals and fellow WCC opponent BYU fell in the third round. UW, BYU and USD also enter the season ranked in the AVCA preseason rankings with #4, #15 and #20 ranks respectively, while two other opponents, Kansas State and Cal Poly are currently receiving votes in the poll.
Â
In preseason action, the Waves will play in three separate tournaments, first hitting the road to face Georgia, Winthrop and Morehead State at the Georgia Classic in Athens, Ga. on August 27-28 and then continuing on the road to challenge Kansas State, San Diego State and UC Santa Barbara in the Santa Barbara Classic on September 3-4. The final tournament will be the 23rd annual Pepperdine Asics Classic, hosting Washington for the home opener and Cal Poly on September 10 and 12 respectively. The final preseason match will be a standalone home match-up against VCU on September 16.
Â
After the slew of preseason action, the Waves will kick off challenge West Coast Conference play with a road trip to San Francisco and Santa Clara on September 23 and 25. Pepperdine will then return home to have the first WCC home contest against Portland on September 28.Â
Â
In addition to the Asics Classic, VCU and Portland home matches, other home bouts will be played against LMU (10/2), San Diego (10/14), BYU (10/16), Saint Mary's (11/4), Pacific (11/6), San Francisco (11/18), Santa Clara (11/20) and Gonzaga (11/23). Other WCC road contests will be against Pacific (10/7), Saint Mary's (10/9), Gonzaga (10/21), Portland (10/23), LMU (10/29), BYU (11/11) and San Diego (11/13).
