LAKE NONA, Florida – An incredible run for Guy Den Ouden and Adrian Oetzbach of the Pepperdine men's tennis team came to a halt on Thursday afternoon as the pair fell to an Auburn tandem 6-4, 6-1 in the NCAA Doubles Tournament semifinals.
Â
All is not lost, however, as both Waves earned ITA Doubles All-American status in the process, defeating multiple top-30 opponents. That list includes #16 Riffice/Vale from national team champion Florida, #7 Zink/Bryde of Georgia and #29 Troost/Lobak of Minnesota.
It was the first time since 2006 that Pepperdine has made it through to the semifinal round in men's doubles, as the last pair to do so was Andre Begemann and Scott Doerner.
Â
Den Ouden and Oetzbach complete their time together with a 13-5 overall record, going 10-4 through the dual season on court one. One of the duo's most defining wins came in the upset over then-#14 Oklahoma State, as the Waves beat the pair of Hudd/Vocel who were ranked #3 in the country.
Â
Oetzbach will hang up the Pepperdine uniform and graduate with a degree in sociology.
