MALIBU, California – Head coach Laurie Gibbs announced today the signing of two top recruits – Jeneath Wong of Australia and Charlotte Brook of England – who will join the Pepperdine women's golf team in January 2023.
Â
"We are very pleased to sign two talented recruits that will add greatly to the strength of our team next season," Gibbs said. "Jeneath is one of the top recruits in the world from the 2022-23 class. She has been winning golf tournaments since a young age and has extensive experience competing in Australia, Malaysia, United States and other countries. Charlotte was a very accomplished gymnast and field hockey player before deciding to focus on golf. Her improvement in the last year is very impressive. Jeneath and Charlotte will be awesome teammates and friends during their four years in Malibu. We are excited to have them and their wonderful families join our Waves family."
Â
Jeneath Wong – Melbourne, Australia – Glen Waverley Secondary College
Â
Has been as high as #115 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking ... Originally from Malaysia but currently lives in Australia ... Back-to-back champion of the Riversdale Cup in 2020 and 2021 ... Set course records at Beach Golf Club (9-under 63) and Cranbourne Golf Club (6-under 66) ... Received the Rising Star Award for Golf from her school four straight years (2017-20).
Â
Gibbs says: "Jeneath has the experience, determination, positive attitude and warm personality that will allow her to continue to grow her game as a Wave. She has the personal character that we look for in all of our players. Jeneath could easily be our next player to be honored as a four-time All-American and then go on to win on the LPGA Tour."
Â
Wong says: "Pepperdine, being a small and exclusive university, aims to give a comfortable family environment, which I highly admire. The amazing location of the university in Malibu provides me with many opportunities to compete and play golf all year round. Coach Laurie is an experienced, supportive and diligent coach who I believe will definitely help me enhance my golfing skills to achieve my goal of playing on the LPGA Tour."
Â
Charlotte Brook – Poole, England – Canford School
Â
Won the 2020 and 2021 Parkstone GC Ladies Championship ... Also won the 2021 ProDreamUSA English U21 title ... Tied for 19th at the 2021 Welsh Women's Open Amateur ... Tied for 25th at the 2021 Irish Open Women's Amateur ... Qualified for match play at the 2021 R&A Girls Championship ... A 2021 Junior European Open Finals qualifier ... Her mother, Angela, won more than 20 national championships and a World Championship bronze medal with England and Great Britain's trap shooting teams.
Â
Gibbs says: "Charlotte has a similar background to one of the best players in college golf. Her training as a gymnast and field hockey player give her the power and competitive experience to go head-to-head against the top amateur golfers and then on the LPGA Tour. Charlotte is going to surprise people with her success while representing Pepperdine and competing at the highest level of college golf."
Â
Brook says: "Pepperdine's reputation for the highest standards of academic excellence, small class sizes, its beautiful location and perfect climate all combine to create an irresistible offer on their own, but Coach Gibbs' vast experience and repeatedly proven ability to build close-knit and very successful teams whilst helping individual players reach their fullest potential in golf was the clinching factor."
