Pachkaleva Defeats Top Seed to Advance to All-American Quarterfinals

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – Taisiya Pachkaleva of the Pepperdine women's tennis program earned a signature win Thursday, defeating the top seed and #2 nationally ranked Abigail Forbes from UCLA in straight sets to advance to Friday's quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships.

Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia) dominated throughout the match, defeating Forbes 6-3, 6-3. #13 Flores (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and #59 Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) also earned ranked wins on Thursday in the consolation draw. Flores defeated #19 Lea Ma from Georgia, while Fukuda took down another top 30 opponent, #29 Ayana Akli of South Carolina.

Pepperdine's two pairs of doubles had success on Thursday as well. In the main draw, Victoria Flores and Janice Tjen (Jakarta, Indonesia) topped Missouri's Murgett and Oliveira, the #7 doubles duo in the country, and followed that up with another ranked win – this time over Furman's Adams and Dillion, ranked 26^th. Fukuda and Pachkaleva dropped their main draw round of 32 match but received a forfeit win in the consolation draw to advance to the consolation quarterfinals on Friday.
