MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine swimming and diving team lifts the lid on the 2021-22 campaign with two home meets this weekend, hosting San Diego State on Thursday and the Rodionoff Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Meet 1: Thursday (October 7) at
Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif.: Pepperdine vs. San Diego State at 9:30 a.m.
Meet 2: Friday and Saturday (October 8-9) at
Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif.: Rodionoff Invitational at 10 a.m. (both days)
For the Rodionoff Invitational, diving begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with the swim portion of the event starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Division I will be scored separately from Divisions II and III for the invite. Loyola Marymount and San Diego join Pepperdine as Division I opponents, while Concordia University Irvine, Azusa Pacific, Biola, Cal Lutheran, Westmont and The Master's make up the non-Division I field.
The Waves earned a runner-up finish at the PCSC Championships last spring. Head coach
Ellie Monobe was named PCSC Coach of the Meet, while the team broke three school records and won nine events. Three PCSC individual champions return from last year:
Emily Morton (Golden, Colo./Lakewood HS),
Olivia Kayye (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill HS) and
Jasmine Williams (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS). Additionally,
Haley Bergthold (Fairfax, Va./Woodson HS),
Jenna Sanchez (Highland Bay, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) and
Paige Tattersall (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) return after breaking school records in various relays last year. Pepperdine boasts 16 returners for 2021-22 while adding 10 newcomers – nine freshmen and a graduate transfer.
Tickets are now required for all Pepperdine home swimming and diving events for the 2021-22 season and are available via e-ticket ONLY. There will be NO COST for the tickets at these events, but all patrons must register for the e-tickets prior to arriving on campus. Individuals without tickets to an event will not be allowed on campus. Pepperdine faculty, staff and students only need to show their Pepperdine ID card for entry.
