MALIBU, California –
Though not able to gather in person, Pepperdine University Athletics hosted its annual student-athlete awards ceremony remotely with a live YouTube broadcast on Sunday afternoon.

Dubbed the "PEPP Espys" presented by University Credit Union, the event was hosted by members of the Waves Leadership Council. Hannah Frohling of the women's volleyball team and Jalen Frantal of the men's cross country and track teams – the president and vice president of WLC – were the primary hosts for the show.

That duo would end up earning three of the five traditional awards, with Frantal being named male Wave of the Year and receiving the Maurice Hilliard Award, while Frohling was the female Wave of the Year. Additionally, Ashley Lahey of women's tennis was the female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Mate Toth of men's water polo was the male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Maurice Hilliard Award, given in honor and memory of Pepperdine's late athletic chaplain, goes to a student-athlete that exemplifies the attributes of Christian faith, character and leadership. The Wave of the Year, presented by Pepperdine's Waves Leadership Council, honors student-athletes for outstanding contributions in spirit and service to the athletics program and the university community.

Student-athletes, coaches and staff voted on the remainder of the awards, which are all in their sixth year of existence. They cover events held over the last 12 months, dating back to April 2019. Here were those winners:
