MALIBU, California – With the NCAA canceling all remaining winter and spring national championship events and the decision by many other Division I conferences to suspend or cancel spring sports, the West Coast Conference and Pepperdine University have announced that all remaining spring competitions for the 2019-20 school year will be canceled in response to the public health situation with the coronavirus.
This will also end the seasons for Pepperdine's non-WCC teams, including men's volleyball. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation also announced the cancellation and/or suspension of all remaining contests today.
Pepperdine Athletics' top priority continues to be the health and safety of our students, student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans, and our immediate focus will be on supporting our student-athletes who have had their athletic seasons cut short.
"We are extremely disappointed for all of our student-athletes, especially our seniors," Pepperdine Director of Athletics
Dr. Steve Potts said. "To lose the opportunity to compete for conference championships, and in some cases, national championships, is devastating indeed. In light of the continuing challenges presented by the spread of COVID-19, we realize that the health and safety of our students, student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans is always our primary concern. I'm thankful for the efforts of all of our dedicated and talented student-athletes, coaches and staff."
