MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine University Department of Athletics and Joe Spahn, head coach of the women's swimming and diving program, have mutually agreed to part ways.
Â
In 2018-19, his first season at the helm, Spahn led the Waves to a second-place finish at the PCSC Championships, only the third such achievement in Waves history, and the first time in more than a decade. He also coached the first two postseason swimmers in school history to the 2019 CSCAA National Invitational Championship. In his year-and-a-half as head coach, Spahn's swimmers set a total of 12 school records in seven different events, and achieved numerous top 10 times in school history.
Â
"In his time here at Pepperdine, Joe Spahn brought a more competitive environment to our women's swim and dive program," Pepperdine Director of Athletics Dr. Steve Potts said. "He brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the sport of swimming and a strong desire to help his student-athletes and coaches. We appreciate his efforts in enhancing the competitive nature of our swim and dive program. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
Â
"I am extremely thankful to Pepperdine University for the opportunity to lead their women's swimming and diving program," Spahn said. "Mary Kate and I truly enjoyed our time at Pepperdine, and wish this team the best of luck in the future."
