5/6/2019 2:03:00 PM | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Oklahoma – Hira Naveed set a Pepperdine women's golf single-season record on Monday with her 15th below-par round of the season, but the Waves will be needing a couple of outstanding team scores the next two days at the NCAA Norman Regional to put themselves into a position to advance.
Â
The Waves are in 14th place after the first round and only the top six will move on to the NCAA Championships. Pepperdine shot a 299 at the par-72 Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club and stands 12 strokes out of sixth place.
Â
Pepperdine is making its 21st consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and is attempting to qualify for nationals for the 13th time.

PLAYER SCORES
- Senior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) qualified as an individual for the NCAA Championships last year (the top three from non-advancing teams move on). If the Waves don't come back as a team, she has started in a position to possibly do it again, firing a 1-under 71 that has her tied for 13th. She had five birdies on the day, including three in a five-hole stretch in the middle of the round. Naveed began the tournament tied with Katherine Hull (2002-03) and Grace Na (2013-14) for most below-par rounds in a season at 14.
- Junior Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) is tied for 34th after a 1-over 73. She had three birdies, all of which came on the back nine.
- Freshman Kathrine Chan (Richmond, B.C., Canada) is tied for 69th after a 77. She birdied her first hole of the day.
- Senior Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is tied for 77th after a 78.
- Senior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) is tied for 91st after an 82. She had one birdie.
