Nine Pepperdine Teams Earn APR Awards

MALIBU, California – Nine Pepperdine athletic programs were honored recently when the NCAA released its public recognition awards for Division I teams with outstanding Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. Nine matches the single-year best for Pepperdine Athletics.

The programs recognized were men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf, women's swimming and diving, men's track, women's track, men's volleyball, women's beach volleyball and women's indoor volleyball.

Men's volleyball earned the award for the eighth time, most by any Pepperdine team, while women's golf was recognized for the seventh time. This is the sixth straight year that the women's cross country and the women's swimming and diving teams were honored.

It's the second straight year that Pepperdine has had nine programs recognized.

Division I teams that posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports were acknowledged by the NCAA. The public recognition awards are part of a broad Division I academic reform effort.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2017-18 academic years. Top-performing teams this year posted APR scores ranging from 987 to a perfect 1,000.
