Shah to Compete in FINA World Championships

MALIBU, Calif. – Sofia Shah of the Pepperdine women's swim and dive team will be representing her home country of Nepal in the 2019 FINA World Championships after qualifying during the Nepal National Championships.

"Nepalese Nationals were a great and interesting experience," said Shah, who will be a junior in 2019-20. "I'm happy with my times and I'm looking forward to training hard and improving over the summer here at Pepperdine.Â
"I'm very excited to be back on the international swimming stage at my fourth FINA world championships representing Nepal. I'd like to thank Joe, Jess and the team for motivating me and supporting me every step of the way."

Shah competed in five events, taking gold in three and silver in two more. She took gold in the 50 fly and was part of the gold-winning 4x100 free and medley relay teams. Shah took silver in both the 100 and 50 free.

"We are extremely proud of Sofia," said head coach Joe Spahn. "She has worked extremely hard this season for her team and for herself. This is a great opportunity for her to represent her home country of Nepal and her represent Pepperdine on an international stage."

Shah will compete in the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea from July 12-28.
