MATCH RECAP
In the first match, the Waves came out swinging, collecting first set wins on four of the five courts. Seniors
Maddie Dilfer and
Nikki Lyons finished first, taking down Kassandra Wright and Jayelin Lombard on court four with a staggering 21-6, 21-19 final mark. Then, senior
Heidi Dyer and sophomore partner
Brook Bauer defeated Tiadora Miric and Crissy Jones 21-15, 21-13 on court one to put the Waves in a position to clinch.
Â
The opposition would not roll over easily, however, as the Mustangs No. 5 pair would take the court in two to get on the board.
Â
Pepperdine was quick to bounce back though after juniors
Gigi Hernandez and
Deahna Kraft took care of Macy Gordon and Emily Sonny 21-19, 23-21 on court two to clinch the overall win. In the final match to close in the dual, senior
Skylar Caputo and sophomore
Alexis Filippone bested Vanessa Roscoe and Brayden Gruenewald. After splitting the first two sets 21-15, 18-21, the Waves took care of business in the third with a 15-11 victory on court four to make it 4-1 to open the day.
Â
In the second match of the day against #12 Cal, the Waves once again came out strong, this time collecting on three first set wins. The senior pair on court four was the first to finish yet again, taking down Abby Waldburger and Mia Merino 22-20, 21-10 to open the dual. Then, Dyer and Bauer put down Jordan Polo and Mima Mirkovic 21-18, 21-16 in the No. 1 position to put Pepperdine in clinching territory for the second time today.
Â
Nearly similar to the first dual, Hernandez and Kraft take court two to clinch the overall, rallying back from splitting the first two sets 21-18, 18-21 to dominate the third set 15-7 for the win.Â
Â
Courts three and five closed the day with Filippone and Caputo having a three-set battle against Iya Lindahl and Grace Campbell 17-21, 21-17, 15-10 to give the Waves four point in the dual. In the final match on five,
Katie Gavin and
Simone Priebe also had a three-set battle, but eventually fell short of 20-22, 21-15, 13-15 final set scores to make it a 4-1 match to end the day.
