LONG BEACH, CALIF. – In a solo dual at the LBSU Sand Courts on Wednesday afternoon, the #5 Pepperdine beach volleyball team swept past Long Beach State 5-0.
 
The Waves (12-5) will now head to Tempe, Ariz. for the ASU Invitational on Friday and Saturday, where the team will challenge #2 USC for the first time this season, along with #6 Hawai'i and tournament host Arizona State.

MATCH RECAP
In a two-flight dual, the Waves came out ready to play in both flights.  In the first flight including courts two and four, Maddie Dilfer and Nikki Lyons would finish first to set the tone.  After a 21-17 first set win over Tyler Spriggs and Alexis Patterson, the duo picked up a 21-16 second set win to put the Waves on the board.  In the same flight, Gigi Hernandez and Deahna Kraft joined forces once again to take down Mari Molina and Megan Kruidhof 21-17, 21-19 on court two.
 
With an opportunity to clinch the overall dual, courts one, three and five sprang into action.  Simone Priebe and Katie Gavin would do the honors on court five, amassing a 22-20, 21-15 victory over Claire Newlander and Sophie Major to give Pepperdine the win.
 
Alexis Filippone and Skylar Caputo would then take a 21-14, 24-22 victory on court three over Kendra Koelsch and Sydney Stevens before Brook Bauer and Heidi Dyer would finish the match with a sweep after taking home a 21-13, 19-21 and 15-7 final win on court one over Nicci Reinking and Zoi Konstantopoulou.

Next, the Waves make a trip to Tempe, Ariz. for the ASU Invitational where the team will challenge #2 USC and #6 Hawai'i on Friday, before facing tournament host Arizona State on Saturday.
