Waves Post Dominating Win in Season Opener

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive team opened its' season with a dominating win today at the PCSC Relays.

The Waves took the title with 217 points versus the Loyola Marymount Lions with 66 points.Â
MEET RECAP
The Waves had a strong showing, with four first place event finishes. The first win came from the 800 free relay team of Emily Morton, Khloe McCarthy, Mackenzie Hamlett, and Olivia Kayye. They touched in with a time of 7:54.29, defeating the second-place team from Azusa Pacific by over seven seconds.

The next win for the Waves was posted in the 3x500 freestyle relay, where each swimmer races a 500 freestyle. The winning team was made up of Sammie Slater, Kayye, and Caroline Anderson, who came in with a time of 16:02.69, almost a full 10 seconds faster than any other competitors.

Pepperdine led all teams in the 4x100 individual medley relay with a time of 4:07.61, which was swam by Morton, Julianna Birlin, Kayye, and Slater.

In the final race of the day, the 400 freestyle relay, the Waves took home another win. The squad of Amy Griffin, Jasmine Williams, Hamlett, and Paige Brackett finished in a time of 3:39.82.

Head Coach Joe Spahn says: "Today was a great way to start the season. As a whole we really raced well. It's really nice to get the season rolling with a win. Now it's time to build off of this meet as we head into three days of racing next week."

NEXT UP
The Waves will be back in Malibu for their home opener at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on October 10th versus San Diego State and then hosting the Malibu Invite on October 11th and 12th.
