RECAP
The weather in the center of the U.S. is known for its bipolar nature and the beginning of the 2019 ITA All-American Championships proved just that. The first rounds of play were delayed due to rain, as #14 Ashley Lahey took her hard-fought 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2 win over the #52 Samantha Martinelli of Yale. Lahey then took hold of second-round opponent Isabelle Boulais (Ohio St.) 6-0, 6-3 to advance into the tournament sweet 16.
Â
No. 32 Jessica Failla was set to begin her first round match at 11 a.m. PT/1 p.m. CT but was pushed back until officials eventually called the first day around midnight central time. Failla then opened Thursday morning with a rough match against host site Tulsa's #73 Martina Okalova, losing 7-6(4), 7-5. With a quick turnaround, Failla fought but couldn't overcome Furman's #46 Katarina Kozarov, losing in two straight tie-breaks to end her tournament run.
