#7 Pepperdine Opens Dual Action with ITA Kick-Off Sweep of UNLV

MALIBU, Calif. – The #7 Pepperdine women's tennis team opened ITA Kick-Off Weekend and the 2019 dual campaign with a 4-0 sweep of UNLV on Saturday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
With the home opening win, the Waves (1-0) advance to the ITA Kick-Off Championship match tomorrow at 1 p.m. against the winner Denver vs. Oregon. UNLV (0-1) will play the loser in the consolation match at 10 a.m.

Pepperdine came out swinging in doubles action, picking up a quick 6-2 win on court three after Dzina Milovanovic and Adrijana Lekaj downed Samantha Li and Alex Kalachova. #1 Ashley Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova then bested Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang on court one with a 6-2 win of their own.
In singles, #17 Levashova made fast work of Anna Bogoslavets in the #2 position, taking 6-0 and 6-2 wins to finish first. Then, freshman Satsuki Takamura put the Waves in a position to clinch after defeating Cnnie Li on court five with a 6-2, 6-1 final.
Lekaj would seal the deal for Pepperdine, downing Huang with a 6-1, 6-4 final mark to clinch the 4-0 home-opening sweep for the Waves.
ITA KICK-OFF CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 11th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend takes place January 25-28, 2019, at 24 different Division I tennis facilities across the country. In all, there are 60 teams competing per gender in ITA Kick-Off Weekend events. There are 15 "regionals" played on both the men's and women's side, with four teams competing in each regional. The winners of the single-elimination event advance to next month's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships. Washington (women's) and Illinois (men's) will serve as hosts for the National Team Indoors and received automatic invitations to the event, and are exempt from competing in the Kick-Off Weekend.

- Pepperdine has posted a 36-2 record at home including the past three seasons.
- This is the third-consecutive season the Waves have won the first match of the dual campaign. It is the fourth season in a row the team has won the home opener at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
- Freshman Satsuki Takamura won her first collegiate match with a two-set win on court five today.
- Adrijana Lekaj garnered her first clinch of the season with a two-set win on court four.
- Ashley Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova are currently ranked #1 in the Oracle/ITA doubles rankings. The duo clinched the first doubles point of the season today against UNLV and has gone 10-2 overall this season including tournament play.
- The Waves are now 3-0 in dual singles action and 2-0 in doubles play collectively.
