May 29, 2018 MALIBU, California â€" Pepperdine's Nick Heath and Kevin Maeda have both earned CoSIDA/Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 honors for cross country/track, it was announced today.
The Waves and Washington State were the only two schools in the district to put multiple runners onto the 10-member team. Both Heath and Maeda will now go onto the ballot for Academic All-America voting.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America consideration, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade-point average, have at least sophomore eligibility and have participated in 50 percent of the season's events.
Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS), a rising senior who is a finance major with a 3.99 GPA, has earned his second consecutive Academic All-District award. He holds a total of five school records, two in cross country (8K and 10K) and three in track (3,000, 5,000 and 10,000). In fall 2017, he became the first Wave since 2007 to reach the podium at the West Coast Conference Championships, as he placed 15th and earned All-WCC honorable mention status. He's twice been named to the WCC All-Academic first team.
Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS), who just graduated as a chemistry major with a 3.92 GPA, made the Academic All-District list for the first time. He ended his running career #2 in the 10K and #3 in the 8K in the school's cross country records list, and #2 in the 5,000 and #5 in the 1,500 in track. He was co-president of the Waves Leadership Council in 2017-18.
